(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS scored four times in the second period on route to a 5-0 win over the Mount Allison Mounties in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action, Saturday night at UNB's Aitken Centre.
The REDS and Mounties played a scoreless first period before UNB's eruption in the second.
First-year RED Keira Grant opened the scoring at the 9:16 mark, and Lauren Carter doubled the UNB lead at 15:26.
Jamie Arsenault made it 3-0 at 17:59 and Katelyn Scott added UNB's fourth goal with less than a minute remaining.
Rylee Strohm capped the scoring at 14:20 of the third period.
In the UNB net, Taya Christie earned the shutout and her first career AUS victory, stopping all 21 shots she faced.
Mount A's Skye MacDonald surrendered all five UNB goals on 35 shots.
Avery Thurston, April Reiner, and Hillary Wood all had a pair of assists for UNB.
With the win, the REDS extend their win streak to five games and improve to 6-2-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL).
The Mounties remain winless at 0-9-0-0.
Both teams skate back into action on Friday.
Mount Allison hosts Saint Mary's while the REDS will welcome UPEI to the Aitken Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm in both games.
