Dane Foss Transfers To REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS, defending Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey champions, are adding experience and international flavour to their recruiting class of 2026 in the form of veteran Danish forward Frederikke Foss.
21-year-old Foss, from Gentøfte, in eastern Denmark, is joining the REDS as a transfer after two seasons with the University of Maine Black Bears, in the NCAA.
“Frederikke has already experienced hockey in a number of elite environments and that experience is something she’ll bring to our group right away,” said REDS’ head coach Sarah Hilworth.
In her two seasons at Maine, Foss skated in 39 games and scored three goals.
Prior to joining the Black Bears, she was a standout at Shattuck St. Mary’s prep school.
“My shot, vision, and skill are among my biggest strengths as a player,” said Foss, who is also a veteran member of Denmark’s national team program.
She represented her country at U18 World Junior Championship in 2020, 2022, and 2023, scoring five goals and four assists in a total of 13 tournament games.
As a member of Denmark’s senior women’s team, Foss took part in IIHF World Championship tournaments in 2023, 2024, and 2025, as well as the country’s attempt to qualify for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“I want to make the most of every year at UNB and to improve as a player and in all other areas of my life,” she said.
“Frederikke is a highly skilled player with great vision and offensive instincts,” said Coach Hilworth. “She’s also someone who is constantly looking for ways to grow and challenge herself.”
While attending UNB, Foss will complete the Business degree she began at Maine.
Foss becomes the first international recruit to join UNB’s women’s hockey program since its return to AUS and U SPORTS play in 2018.
