(SACKVILLE, NB) The UNB REDS scored twice in the third period to notch a 3-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action, Saturday afternoon in Sackville.
With the win, their 19th of the season, the REDS clinch a first-round playoff bye.
AUS scoring leader Katelyn Scott tallied mid-way through the final frame to give the REDS a 2-0 lead, and Olivia Eustace scored about two minutes later to make it 3-0.
Mount Allison's Chelsea Krahenbil scored late in the third to make the final 3-1.
Jorja Nystrom, who scored UNB's first goal, added an assist for a two-point game.
Taya Christie made 11 saves on a dozen shots to earn the win in the UNB net.
Skye McDonald faced 35 REDS shots in the Mounties' net and suffered the loss.
The REDS improve to 19-5-1-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL), good for second place in the AUS standings. UNB is two points back of conference leaders STFX and six up on third place St. Thomas.
Mount Allison is 1-25-0-0 and in last place.
UNB will wrap up their regular season schedule with home games against Saint Mary's and Dalhousie next weekend.
The REDS host the Huskies at 7:00pm on Friday and take on the Tigers on Saturday in a 3:00pm matinee.
The Mounties are back in action on Wednesday when they visit Moncton for a 7:00pm start.
