(ANTIGONISH, NS) A late push fell short as the UNB REDS dropped a 2-1 decision to the STFX X-Women in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey, Friday night in Antigonish.
After the REDS had giving up goals in the first and second periods, they came on late in the third.
Payton Hargreaves scored her 13th goal of the season with 1:55 to play, but the REDS couldn't find a tying goal.
Cassie McCallum saw 36 shots in the REDS' net, stopping 34.
Brookly Oakes made 14 saves on 15 shots in the X net.
STFX assumes first place in the AUS standings with the win. The X-Women are now 20-5-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) while the REDS are 18-5-1-1, just two points back of X.
The REDS now head to Sackville to take on the Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday afternoon. Game time is 3:00pm.
The X-Women play host to St. Thomas at the same time.
