(FREDERICTON, NB) Olivia Eustace scored with 48 seconds remaining to give the UNB REDS a 2-1 win over the STFX X-Women in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action, Friday night at UNB's Aitken Centre.
With the REDS working on a 5-on-3 skater advantage, Eustace took a pass from Payton Hargreaves and re-directed the puck past X-Women goaltender Brooklyn Oakes at the 19:12 mark of the third period.
The REDS opened the scoring mid-way through the first period when Eustace and Katelyn Scott combined to set up Lilly Bell's second goal of the season.
UNB took that 1-0 lead into the first intermission and the teams played a scoreless second period.
Ireland McCloskey scored at the 1:51 mark of the third to tie it and overtime looked inevitable until STFX got into penalty trouble in the final minutes.
Scott drew her second assist of the night on Eustace's winner.
Cassie McCallum made 25 saves on 26 shots for the win in the UNB net. Oakes faced 21 shots, making 19 saves in the loss.
With the win, UNB's fourth straight, the REDS improve to 6-2-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) while the X-Women are now 5-3-0-0.
STFX remains in Fredericton and will take on St. Thomas on Saturday in a 3:00pm start.
The REDS play host to the Mount Allison Mounties. Game time is 7:00pm.
