Strohm Plays Shootout Hero
(FREDERICTON, NB) Rylee Strohm's shootout goal was the difference as the UNB REDS scored their first victory of the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport season on Friday, 2-1 over the Dalhousie Tigers in UNB's home-opener.
Strohm, the REDS' third shooter, fired a hard shot glove-side on Tigers' goalie Madison King to give UNB the win in a game where they outshot Dal 41-19.
Strohm was named the Tim Horton's Player of the Game.
The visitors opened the scoring less than three minutes in when Emma Robertson pounced on a loose puck just outside of the crease and lifted it over a sprawling Cassie McCallum in the UNB net.
The Tigers carried that early lead into the first intermission despite being outshot 14-4 in the opening frame.
Dal didn't register a second period shot until the 9:45 mark and that came after a flurry of chances and considerable UNB pressure at the other end of the rink.
Veteran forward Olivia Eustace scored UNB's first goal of the season at 4:47 of the third period to tie the game. On the power-play, she took a feed at the top of the faceoff circle and wired a shot short-side on King.
McCallum made 18 saves on 19 shots in regulation and overtime and stopped three of four Dal shooters in the shootout to earn the win.
King stopped 40 of the 41 shots she faced in regulation and overtime, but only two of UNB's four shooters in the shootout. She took the loss.
The REDS skate right back into action on Saturday afternoon when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies in a 3:00pm matinee.
The Tigers visit St. Thomas. That game is also scheduled for a 3:00pm start.
