Pears Picks REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s hockey team is adding forward Madelyn Pears to their recruiting class of 2024.
The 17-year-old, currently in her Grade 12 year at Ottawa’s Ashbury College, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2024-2025 Atlantic University Sport season.
“Maddy utilizes her agility and deft touch to deliver pucks towards the goal,” said REDS’ head coach Sarah Hilworth. “She demonstrates precision in her play and orchestrates plays with finesse. Her skill set encompasses a dynamic stick presence and a powerful one-time slapshot.”
Pears is a member of the girls’ varsity team at Ashbury College and a member of the Nepean Jr. Wildcats, of the Ontario Women’s Hockey League.
“I chose UNB because their program is among the best in the country,” said Pears. “They offer everything you need to be successful on the ice and in the classroom. The culture that the team has built is unmatched, but most importantly the great results that the team has seen due to their hard work and dedication.”
“Maddy employs puck control and strategic delays to craft offensive openings,” said Coach Hilworth. “We’re excited to add Maddy and her ability to our incoming class.”
Pears will pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration while attending UNB.
