Parvin Joining REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The reigning Atlantic University Sport champion UNB REDS women’s hockey team is adding centre Alexandra Parvin to their recruiting class of 2024.
The 17-year-old, from Orleans, Ontario, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2024-2025 AUS season.
“Alex is a quick player who certainly fits our mould of speed and grit,” said REDS’ head coach Sarah Hilworth. “She transitions the puck extremely well and loves to get on offence quick.”
Currently completing her Grade 12 year at St. Matthew Catholic High School, in Orleans, Parvin is a member of the East Ottawa Stars Jr. Elite U22 team, of the Ontario Women’s Hockey League, and among the leaders in team scoring so far this season.
Earlier this year she attended UNB’s Prospect Camp as well as the Clarkson Prospect Camp, earning player of the game nods at each.
“We see Alex as a dynamic threat and know she’ll compliment our forward group extremely well,” said Coach Hilworth.
“I’m a hard-working, fast skating, dangle happy team player who sees the whole ice and prefers to score as a line,” said Parvin. “I was told by Coach Hilworth that she brought me here because she like the energy I bring to the ice.”
“I felt the REDS were just as interested in me as a person and student as they were about me as a hockey player,” added Parvin, also a member of her high school’s non-contact boys’ hockey team. “The environment at UNB is exactly what I’m looking for in a program.”
Among her goals, Parvin wants to help the REDS win championships.
She’ll study Bio-Chemistry while attending UNB and has her sights set on medical school.
