REDS Win Big On The Road
(SACKVILLE, NB) Lillian George (Nipissing First Nation) had a goal and an assist as the UNB REDS earned a 5-0 win over the Mount Allison Mounties on Friday night at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre.
George netted her Atlantic University Sport leading fifth goal of the season to lead the REDS to victory and earn Player of the Game honours.
The first period saw chances for both teams but no goals as the sides headed into the locker rooms tied at zero after 20 minutes.
It was the visiting REDS who found the scoresheet first, just 33 seconds into the second period as Payton Hargreaves (Whitby, ON) found the back of the net.
In the middle of the second period the REDS doubled their lead on the powerplay as Lindsey Smith (Onslow, NS) beat the Mount Allison keeper with Hargreaves getting her second point of the night on the assist.
UNB began the third period just as hot as they ended the second, Melanie Drost (Nepean, ON) scoring to give the REDS a three-goal advantage.
They added to their lead midway through the period when Lauren Carter (Milton, ON) gave the visitors a 4-0 lead on the powerplay.
George wrapped up the scoring for the night as her shot, short side, found the top corner to put UNB up 5-0.
UNB, now 4-and-1, look to extend their win streak to five on Saturday as they host the Saint Mary's Huskies. Puck drop set for 7:00pm.
Mount Allison, now 0-and-4, look for their first win of the season as they head over the Confederation Bridge to take on the UPEI Panthers Saturday. Game time is 2:00pm.
