REDS Fall To Rouge Et Or
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS won the opening set then watched the Laval Rouge et Or take the next three to win 3-1 in RSEQ men's volleyball action, Friday evening at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.
The first set saw the teams go back and forth until the REDS opened a three-point advantage at 16-13.
A Laval timeout ended the REDS forward push and the Rouge et Or fought back to tie the score 16-16.
The REDS then fashioned a 3-0 run of their own to go up 21-18 on route to a 25-23 set victory.
The second set saw Laval jump out to an early 5-1 lead, prompting a UNB timeout.
The REDS chased the visitors the rest of the way, dropping the set 25-18.
The third set saw a series of short runs by each team with Laval putting the final run together for a 25-23 win.
In the fourth, Laval held off a late UNB push to win 25-21 and take the match 3-1.
Moritz Möhring led the REDS offensively with 15 kills while Finn McMorran had 31 assists.
Alex Bourque registered 11 digs and Lex Guimond put up a team-high five blocks.
For Laval, Felix-Antonie Perron struck a match-high 20 kills while Max Losier added 18.
Thomas Boccardi had 11 digs, Jacob Gendron had half a dozen blocks, and Charles St-Aubin had 52 assists.
The loss drops the REDS to 6-and-7 on the season, still good for third place.
The Rouge et Or improve to 10-and-2 and remain second in the RSEQ standings.
UNB doesn't have to wait long to try and even their record as the teams meet again Saturday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 1:00pm.
Saturday's match will be UNB's final regular season home game of the 2025-26 campaign.
