(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS beat the Saint Mary's Huskies 3-0 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action Friday night at UNB's BMO Centre.
The REDS opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Hunter Delahunt took a pass from teammate Chris Schmit and fired the ball past Saint Mary's keeper Tomas Mello.
First-year RED Diego Carreno doubled UNB's lead in the 77th minute, making a nice move around a defender and easily beating Mello from just outside of the box.
Liam McGowan scored UNB's third goal late in added time.
The REDS peppered Mello with five shots on the Saint Mary's net while holding the Huskies without a shot on UNB keeper Jensen Brown.
With the win UNB is now 6-3-1 (W-L-T) for 19 points and a share of second place. The Huskies are now 3-7-0.
The REDS visit UPEI on Sunday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 3:30pm.
Saint Mary's returns home to host Moncton in another 3:30 start on Sunday.
