(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS scored their first win of the season, beating the visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-1 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action, Friday night at UNB's BMO Centre.
Memorial's Taj Exley put the visitors on the board first, scoring in the 16ht minute.
The REDS answered quickly on a goal in the 28th minute by Hunter Delahunt, his fourth goal of the young season.
Veteran UNB midfielder Stefano D'Ambrogio gave the home team the lead, scoring in the 40th minute.
D'Ambrogio made an easy conversion of a pin-point pass into the middle by Liam MacGowan in the 40thminute.
MacGowan then extended UNB's lead to 3-1 in the 63rd minute when he took control of a rebound in front of the Memorial net and fired the ball past Sea-Hawks keeper Ben Collingwood.
With the win, the REDS are now 1-2-1 and in seventh place in the AUS standings.
Memorial suffers their first loss of the season. They're now 3-1-1 and part of a four-way tie atop the conference standings.
Both teams will enjoy an off day Saturday before returning to action Sunday.
The Sea-Hawks will be in Moncton for a 1:30pm kick-off. UNB plays host to Mount Allison in a game scheduled to begin at 3:30pm.
