REDS Fall At CBU And X
(ANTIGONISH, NS) The UNB REDS conceded a late goal on a penalty in a 1-0 loss to the STFX X-Men, Sunday afternoon in Antigonish.
Logan Rieck converted the X penalty in the 82nd minute, spoiling Jensen Brown's debut in the REDS' net.
"Today, against a rested STFX side we were able to shut down their attacking threats and have momentum build in our favour through the game," said REDS' head coach Barry Morrison. "It was heart breaking to concede a penalty late in the game to lose 1-0."
Sunday's game began with a tremendous defensive effort by veteran REDS' defender Simon Bisaillon, who scooped the ball off the goal line less than 15 minutes in following a bit of a scramble in front of Brown.
Saturday's loss followed a tough 3-1 defeat at Cape Breton on Saturday.
That game saw the teams play a scoreless opening half before the Capers scored three times in the second for the win.
"On Saturday we struggled to find our legs after a long drive, and in difficult and hot conditions," said Coach Morrison. "After a largely uneventful first half, the second half was wide open with good opportunities on both sides. We were disappointed that we weren't able to take advantage of second half momentum to take hold of the game."
The REDS, now 0-2-1 (W-L-T), will host 3-0-1 Memorial on Friday at 7:30pm.
