(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS are the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport men's hockey champions.
The REDS scored three times in the second period in a 4-1 win over l'Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus in the deciding game of their best of three AUS championship series.
The title is the eighth consecutive for UNB and the 22nd in program history.
Thursday's game was played before a capacity crowd of 3374 at UNB's Aitken Centre.
After a scoreless first period, Moncton was first on the scoreboard when Mika Cyr threaded a pass through the slot to Jeremy Lapointe who one-timed a shot past REDS' goalie Remi Delafontaine.
The Moncton lead was short-lived though. Less than two minutes later, with the REDS on the powerplay, Jax Dubois beat Aigles Bleus goalie Olivier Adam to tie the score 1-1.
Less than three minutes after that Michael Petizian beat Adam with a shot from the left faceoff circle and UNB went up by a goal.
At 14:40, just 12 seconds into another REDS powerplay, Stuart Rolofs made it 3-1.
Luke Torrance added an empty net goal to make the final 4-1.
Delafontaine made 16 saves on 17 shots and was named the Boston Pizza Player of the Game.
Adam made 25 saves on 28 shots in the Moncton net.
Cody Morgan, who finished the night with two assists, was named the MVP of the AUS playoffs.
Both teams have qualified for next week's U SPORTS championship tournament, in Halifax. Play begins Thursday. Seedings are expected to be announced on Sunday.
