(FREDERICTON, NB) The Acadia Axemen scored two third period goals to beat the UNB REDS 3-2 in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action, Saturday night at UNB's Aitken Centre.
Kian Bell and Marc Boudreau scored Acadia's tying and winning goals.
The REDS scored their goals about two minutes apart late in the first period.
UNB opened the scoring on Braeden MacPhee's second goal of the season at 16:05 of the first.
MacPhee took a pass in the slot and fired a wrist shot through traffic that beat Thomas Couture in the Acadia net.
At 18:18, Peter Reynolds fed Cole Huckins at the top of the slot. Huckins' wrist shot, again through traffic, found its way past Couture as UNB took a 2-0 lead to the first intermission.
Conor Shortall put Acadia on the board mid-way through the second period, and the Axemen scored the only goals of the third period on route to victory.
Couture faced 45 UNB shots, stopping 43.
Remi Delafontaine made 22 saves on 25 Acadia shots.
The loss drops UNB to 4-3-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL), good for fourth place in the AUS standings.
Acadia is 5-2-1-0 and third in the standings.
The Axemen are back in action on Wednesday when they visit Saint Mary's.
