(WOLFVILLE, NS) The Acadia Axemen scored three late goals to beat the UNB Reds 6-4, Saturday night, in Wolfville.
After a scoreless first period, the Reds opened the scoring early in the second.
Tristan Pomerleau (Riviere-du-Loup, QC) circled from the Acadia blueline and darted down the left-wing boards, before driving the net and finishing off his own rebound through the five-hole of goalie Logan Flodell (Regina, SK).
Axemen Captain Liam Maskaant (Clinton, ON) responded with his first goal of the season after a 3 on 2 rush concluded with Maskaant's wrister being deflected into the top corner.
Just 19 seconds later, forward Jack Flaman (Vbank, SK) gave Acadia the lead beating Samuel Harvey (Alma, QC) with a wicked wrist shot.
It took only a minute and ten seconds later for the Axemen to add to their lead when Mason McCarty (Blackie, AB) buried his first.
UNB would get the last laugh of the period as Alexandre Goulet (Disraeli, QC) tied the game 3-3, tapping in a cross-crease feed from Patrick Watling (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) with only 0.8 seconds remaining in the second.
UNB's Tyler Boland (St. John's, NL) opened the third period scoring at 4:23, finding a rebound and tucking it past Flodell.
Just two minutes later, Axemen defenceman Garrett McFadden (Kincardine, ON) tied the score with a slapshot from the left point that beat Harvey to the low glove.
McCarty then got his second of the night, a seeing eye shot through a screen.
Another minute later, Jordy Stallard (Brandon, MB) added a goal to his three assists with a quick shot. Stallard was named Subway Player of the Game.
The game would end with the Axemen taking it by a score of 6-4.
Acadia is back in action Friday, when they play Dalhousie, in Halifax.
The Reds will be looking to bounce back when they host Moncton, on October 11th, in UNB's home opener.
