REDS Recruit Roemer
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s volleyball team may have hit their mid-season break, but head coach Richard Schick isn’t idle.
Schick has begun work on the team’s recruiting class of 2022.
Middle and Outside Hitter Lizzie Roemer, from Pitt Meadows, BC, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the REDS ahead of the 2022-23 Atlantic University Sport season.
“Lizzie is a multi-sport athlete who’s just starting to understand what she’s capable of doing on the volleyball court,” said Schick. “In her relatively short time playing volleyball, she’s shown tremendous and continued improvement, and her versatility will only help in her continued growth in the game.”
The 17-year-old, who stands 5’11”, is finishing her Grade 12 year at Pitt Meadows Secondary School.
During the 2021 Fraser North Athletics high school volleyball season, Roemer helped the Marauders to the conference championship, earning 1st Team All-Star status along the way.
She was a member of Team BC in 2021.
Previously, as a member of a Ducks Volleyball Club team, she was a 2019 MVP, and helped the Ducks earn silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the 2020 Lower Mainland and Okanagan Super Series events.
“I loved the environment as soon as I stepped on campus,” said Roemer. “I was very impressed with the Kinesiology Faculty and the facilities. The team made me feel welcomed, and I’m excited for the opportunity to play with them.”
Roemer is also an accomplished box and field lacrosse player. In 2018, she helped Team BC win a national box lacrosse championship.
“As an athlete, I’ll bring my multi-sport experience and strong sports IQ,” said Roemer. “I’ll bring my work ethic and effort and desire to grow as a player.”
“She’s someone who, on her visit to UNB, made an immediate impression on our group and coaching staff,” said Schick.
Roemer has established growth as a short-term goal with the REDS.
“I want to work on improving my strength and conditioning and training so I’m ready to contribute right away,” she said. “My long-term goal is to grow and improve each year as a player and do everything I can to help the REDS compete at the national championship.”
Roemer will study Kinesiology while attending UNB.
