Adams Chooses REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) Jenna Adams, like her siblings, was, seemingly, destined to compete at the university level.
The only question was where?
To that end, Adams is about to write a new chapter in her family’s history.
The 5’10” libero and outside hitter has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS women’s volleyball team ahead of the 2022-2023 Atlantic University Sport season.
Adams’ brother and sister are student-athletes at Acadia and her parents were student-athletes at other Atlantic universities.
“Apart from some joking from my siblings to join them at Acadia, there was no pressure from my sister, brother or parents,” said Adams. “They just wanted me to go where I thought was best for me.”
Finishing her Grade 12 year at Cobequid Education Centre, the Truro, Nova Scotia, native is currently a member of Volleyball Nova Scotia’s U18 team and part of the provincial excellence program.
Adams recently took part in Volleyball Canada’s beach identification camp and participated in Nova Scotia’s summer beach volleyball program.
Previously a member of the Truro Cougars club team, Adams is spending the 2021-22 season with the Fall River Fury club team.
She’s a four-year member of her high school’s varsity girls’ team, helping CEC to provincial championships in 2019-20 and 2021-22. She was the Cougars’ MVP in 2020-21.
Adams is also a member of CEC’s varsity girls’ basketball team, earning the team’s Unsung Hero Award in 2021. In 2018 and 2019, she was a member of Nova Scotia teams that participated at U14 and U15 national basketball championship tournaments.
“I felt at home when I toured the campus,” she said. “The girls were welcoming, and I can’t wait to play with them next season.”
“We’re excited to be able to add a player of Jenna’s skill level and pedigree,” said REDS’ head coach Richard Schick. “She sees the game very well, has outstanding ball control, and is super competitive. She comes from a volleyball school, in CEC, and a volleyball community rich in tradition and success, and has received quality coaching at the high school, club and provincial team levels.”
Adams parents were standout student-athletes during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Her mother, Kate (Evans), was an AUS women’s soccer all-star at Saint Mary’s in 1986, 1988 and 1989. Her father, Rob, helped Dalhousie win AUS men’s soccer titles in 1991 and 1992.
Currently, her sister, Leah, is a member of the women’s soccer team at Acadia, while her brother, Rob, is a member of Acadia’s football team.
“Being able to add another high-level, multi-sport athlete with such a high sports IQ is something we look forward to having in our training environment for many years to come,” said Coach Schick.
Adams’ resume extends beyond volleyball and basketball.
She represented Nova Scotia at the 2018 Canadian Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships, recording a top 10 finish in the triple jump.
“As a multi-sport athlete, I’ll bring my defensive strength and IQ to the game, as well as being adaptable and coachable.”
In the short-term, Adams wants to improve her physical strength. Longer-term, she wants to grow as a player and help the REDS compete for a national championship.
Adams will study Science while attending UNB.
