(SYDNEY, NS) The UNB REDS' 2025 Atlantic University Sport women's soccer season came to an end Friday in a 2-0 loss to the Cape Breton Capers in the semi-finals of the AUS championship tournament.
The Capers, the tournament's third seed and hosts, got a pair of goals from Mia Hamilton to secure the win. Hamilton struck in the 22nd minute and again in the 63rd minute.
"It's a disappointing finish to our season," said REDS' head coach Jon Crossland. "The girls battled hard and created chances, but we couldn't find the goals we needed. CBU was up for it as well, and showed why they have been a top team in the AUS."
Heidi Lauwerijssen led the No. 2 seeded REDS with four of UNB's six shots on goal. Capers' keeper Ellie Lancaster stopped all six.
REDS' keeper Breanna Habinski made four saves on six shots.
"It's the end of an era for an important group of our team," said Coach Crossland. "They brought UNB Soccer back to where it belongs and it will be our responsibility to maintain and build on this success."
The Capers will face No. 4 Memorial in Sunday's conference championship game.
