(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS prevailed in a battle of Atlantic University Sport's unbeaten women's soccer teams, Saturday afternoon in Fredericton.
The REDS scored twice off set pieces in a 2-1 win over the Dalhousie Tigers.
The loss was the first of the season for Dal, who started 7-and-0.
The REDS are now 5-0-3 (W-L-T).
The home team opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when second-year RED Evana Eyubeh used her height to head a corner kick past Tigers' keeper Emily Toth.
Dal's Elise Evans tied the game with a goal early in the second half.
In the 59th minute, off another corner and with Toth out of position, Helen Langrehr found a bouncing ball in a crowd and hammered it into a wide-open Dal net to restore UNB's lead.
The REDS would hang on, thanks in large part to the play of keeper Brianna Habinski who made 12 saves on a remarkable 13 Tigers shots, including a handful from close range.
The Tigers remain atop the AUS table with 21 points, while the REDS move into second place just three back.
The two teams meet again Sunday. Game time is 1:00pm.
