(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS scored three first half goals on route to a 4-0 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer, Sunday afternoon at UNB's BMO Centre.
UNB's Lauren Clarke opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, and the REDS never looked back.
Helen Langrehr made it 2-0 three minutes later and Heidi Lauwerijssen added UNB's third goal in the 20thminute.
Second-year RED Julia Mannall-Fretwell added UNB's fourth goal early in the second half, firing a shot from distance after Mounties keeper Audrey Squires surrendered a big rebound.
In the 64th minute, following a hand ball in the REDS' box, UNB keeper Ava Henry came up big, making a save on the ensuing Mounties' penalty kick.
Henry made a total of four saves during the match and was named Tim Horton's Player of the Game.
With the win, the REDS are now 4-0-1 (W-L-T), good for second place on the AUS table. UNB has outscored opponents 10-1 so far this season.
Mount Allison is now 0-6-0 and last in the conference standings.
Next up for UNB, a Friday evening meeting with the Saint Mary's Huskies, in Halifax. Game time is 5:00pm. The Mounties will also be in Halifax on Friday, taking on the Dalhousie Tigers.
