REDS Drop U SPORTS Opener
(REGINA, SK) UNB's Jenna Campbell rink suffered a tough 10-3 loss to Queen's in the opening draw at the U SPORTS Women's Curling Championship, in Regina, Tuesday night.
The Golden Gaels scored four in the third end to take a 6-1 lead and stole singles in the fourth and fifth ends of a game that was called after seven ends.
"It was kind of a tough one," said Campbell. "The third end really changed the game. We got a bit unlucky on my last and gave Queen's a shot for four. Sometimes that happens and they played great."
Despite the early setback, the Campbell foursome is optimistic.
"We have things that we did well and that we'll carry over," said the skip. "We always take time to learn from a loss."
The REDS are back in action, twice, on day two of the national university championship.
UNB takes on Guelph at 2:30pm Atlantic and then faces Atlantic University Sport rival Memorial in a late draw (9:30pm AST). The Sea-Hawks rink beat UNB in the final at the AUS Championships last month.
"Our team works hard every game and we have each other's backs," said Campbell. "We're confident in our abilities and our process, and I'm looking forward to coming out fresh tomorrow."
