(ANTIGONISH, NS) The STFX X-Women upset the Atlantic University Sport-leading UNB REDS 73-67 in overtime, Saturday night in Antigonish.
Tied 61-61 through four quarters, the X-Women outscored the REDS 12-6 in the extra frame.
Both teams struggled in the second half.
The X-Women were held to just eight points in the third quarter and then held the REDS to just nine in the fourth.
UNB's Kylee Speedy led all scorers with 17 points while Katie Butts scored a dozen and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Maheva Ngassam scored six points and pulled down nine rebounds, and Clancy MacIntyre came off the REDS bench to score nine.
Shannon Neita led the X-Women with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Abby Mercer scored 15 as well, and Ava MacNutt, coming off the X bench, scored 13 points and dished out four assists.
The loss, just the REDS' second of the season, snapped a nine-game win streak.
UNB is now 15-2 and continues to lead the AUS standings.
X is now 12-5 and sit third, six points back of the REDS.
The REDS are back on the road next Friday when they visit Saint Mary's for a 6:00pm tip-off.
