REDS Dominate Capers Again
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS won their sixth straight Atlantic University Sport women's basketball game with a 100-52 triumph over the visiting Cape Breton Capers, Saturday afternoon at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.
Katie Butts led all scorers with 20 points for the REDS on 9-of-10 shooting from the field. Butts added nine rebounds.
Zoe Olscamp came off the UNB bench to score 17 points and grab seven rebounds. She was named the Tim Horton's Player of the Game.
The REDS exerted their dominance early in the opening quarter, building an 18-6 lead and were ahead 24-7 after ten minutes.
UNB led 49-21 at half-time and extended that lead to 80-35 after three quarters on route to their 48-point margin of victory.
Katie McAffee contributed 15 points to the REDS' effort and Kylee Speedy logged 11 points and 10 assists in the win.
Fredericton-native Kristen Taylor led the Capers with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists while Elizandra Costa dropped 11 points.
With the win, the REDS improve to 12-1 and remain first overall in the AUS standings. The Capers are now 1-11 and in last place.
Cape Breton returns home to face Dalhousie on Friday while the REDS take to the road and visit UPEI the same night for a 6:00pm tip-off.
