(SYDNEY, NS) The UNB REDS improved to 3-and-0 on the Atlantic University Sport women's basketball season with a 75-50 win over the Cape Breton University Capers, Friday evening in Sydney.
The REDS outscored the home team 25-13 in a pivotal second quarter, taking a 45-29 lead to the half-time break.
UNB held the Capers to just nine points in the third quarter and extended their lead by seven more on route to their first road win of the season.
Kylee Speedy led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. She also contributed seven rebounds.
Katie McAffee added 16 points while Zoe Olscamp scored nine points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Alyssa Jenkins came off the UNB bench to score seven points and grab seven rebounds.
Ann Bastien registered five steals, half of the REDS' 10 on the night.
Amanda Cruickshank led the Capers with 14 points while Emily MacNeil, coming off the Cape Breton bench, scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
The REDS and Capers will face each other again Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
