Power Forward Commits To REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s basketball team is naming 6’0” power forward Sandrine Wemeni Kameni to their recruiting class of 2025.
The 20-year-old, from Longueuil, Quebec, currently attending College Champlain St-Lambert, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport season.
“We’re thrilled that Sandrine has chosen to bring her talents to our program,” said REDS’ head coach Erin McAleenan. “Her length and athleticism will be a great addition for us at the forward position. We’re really excited about what Sandrine will bring at the defensive end of the floor right away. Her ability to get her hands on the ball, be a disruptive defender, and secure rebounds, are big reasons why we can’t wait to have Sandrine in the line-up.”
Wemeni Kameni was part of the Champlain St-Lambert team won the 2024 RSEQ championship, earned the bronze medal at the 2024 CCAA championship, and was third at the 2025 RSEQ championship.
At the 2022 national championship tournament, Wemeni Kameni was a member of Team Quebec that captured 4th place.
“The team’s culture and commitment to player development made a strong impression on me,” said Wemeni Kameni. “We share similar values, such as family and hard work. I felt welcomed and I could easily see myself growing in that environment on and off the court.”
“I’ve gotten to know Sandrine very well throughout the recruitment process and I am excited about the character person we are adding to our locker room,” said Coach McAleenan. “Sandrine is a kind and thoughtful person who knows what she wants and seeks it out. She will be another great ambassador for our REDS women’s basketball program.”
In 2024-2025, Wemeni Kameni played in just eight of Champlain St-Lambert’s games, averaging 4.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
“I believe my athleticism, positivity, and work ethic will be assets to the team,” said Wemeni Kameni. “My determination and hard work mentality will help lift those around me. I am always ready to work and push my teammates.”
