REDS Down Acadia
(TRURO, NS) The UNB REDS tennis teams wrapped up regular-season play Saturday at the Cougar Dome in Truro, taking on Acadia in their final Atlantic University Tennis League matchups before next weekend’s playoffs.
The REDS men dropped a competitive 3-1 decision, while the UNB women earned a 4-0 victory by default, highlighted by a milestone performance in the lone contested match.
REDS’ head coach Chris Nadeau was encouraged by the effort as the team prepares for postseason play.
“I was really impressed with how everyone competed today,” said Nadeau. “There was a lot of fight across the lineup. Now we have a week to build off what has been a solid season and prepare for the playoffs.”
The men’s dual began with doubles, where Acadia’s Jack Foerster and Lauchlan McDonough claimed the opening point with an 8–4 win over UNB’s Salman Basha and Peter Hebert.
In singles play, Foerster extended Acadia’s advantage with an 8-4 victory over Harshit Upadhyay.
UNB responded with James Farhoud-Watt delivering a composed 8-3 win over Aidan Fennimore.
In the deciding men’s match, a tightly contested battle featuring long rallies and momentum swings, McDonough edged UNB captain Ben Hamilton 8–6 to secure the dual.
The UNB women were awarded a 4-0 team victory by default, as Acadia was unable to field a full lineup due to injuries.
In the lone contested women’s match, Aishwarya Balakrishnan earned her first singles win of the season in her first match of the year, defeating Audrey Serravalle 8-5 to close the regular season on a strong note.
“We’ll see Acadia again in the semi-finals, so we know it will be a great challenge,” said Coach Nadeau.
