REDS Sweep X
(TRURO, NS) The UNB REDS tennis teams opened the second half of their 2025–2026 Atlantic University Tennis League season emphatically on the weekend, earning a sweep on the road against STFX at the Cougar Dome in Truro.
The REDS men posted a 4–0 victory on court, while the women secured a 4–0 win by default, as the X-Women were unable to field a lineup due to injuries, making it a strong and confidence-building road result for UNB.
REDS’ head coach Chris Nadeau was pleased with how the team responded away from home.
“It was a great team effort and a very good way to start the second half, with everyone contributing,” said Nadeau. “A couple of the singles matches were close and could have gone either way, but our team found ways to win the big points when they needed them.”
The dual opened with doubles, where UNB immediately set the tone.
In the men’s doubles match, James Farhoud-Watt and Ben Hamilton delivered a sharp and controlled performance, defeating STFX’s Jakob Orlik and Jona White 8–1 to give the REDS an early lead.
Singles play followed, and the middle of the lineup provided the night’s most competitive moments. Peter Hebert showed poise under pressure, edging Everett Orlik 8–7 in a tiebreak to extend UNB’s advantage.
The clinching point came from Salman Basha who earned a hard-fought 8–6 win over Jakob Orlik, continuing the REDS’ momentum.
Hamilton, UNB’s captain, closed out the sweep in commanding fashion defeating Jona White 8–2.
The REDS now prepare to face the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Saturday, January 24th, at the Sobey’s Atlantic Tennis Centre, in Bedford, Nova Scotia. That dual is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.
UNB wraps up their AUTL regular season when they return to Truro on January 31st to take on Acadia. That dual is scheduled for a 2:00pm start.
