Howse Repeats As AUS Champ
(WOLFVILLE, NS) UNB's Jared Howse ran to a second straight Atlantic University Sport men's cross country title on Saturday, in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
Howse covered the eight-kilometre course in 24:50, finishing eight seconds ahead of teammate Silas Conlin-Morse, who surged ahead of STFX's Brett King at the finish line.
"The first kilometre was very fast, but Silas and I and Will held on until four where we tried to make our move," said Howse. "The competition was tough, and I made my big move on the last lap to secure the gold medal."
The REDS' William Boyle was fifth, and first year RED Steph Snyman ran to an eighth place finish as UNB won the men's team title for a third consecutive year.
"What an awesome run by our men," said REDS' head coach Chris Belof. "Jared was great in his final AUS event."
UNB finished ahead of X and Dalhousie in the team standings.
"I'm really proud of our team for securing a third consecutive team title," said Howse. "We ran three rookies who performed excellently. Silas ran a smart race and made a phenomenal silver medal securing move at the end. Will ran a great race as well."
Next up for the REDS, the U SPORTS Cross Country Championships, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on November 8th.
