REDS Rookie Runs Second
(WOLFVILLE, NS) Silas Conlin-Morse (Wolfville, NS) began his REDS career and the 2024 Atlantic University Sport men's cross country season on a high note.
Conlin-Morse ran to second place in the season opening race, the Acadia Invitational, on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolfville native finished the eight-kilometre event in 26:58.00, 4.3 seconds back of winner Jacob Benoit (Halifax, NS), of the Dalhousie Tigers.
"I was pleased to take second overall against a strong AUS field," said Conlin-Morse. "It was a special race in my hometown, in front of family and friends with my teammates. It's a great start to the season and I'm excited for our upcoming schedule."
Conlin-Morse's podium finish helped the UNB men to a third place finish in the team standings.
"A strong run by our men's group today at Acadia," said REDS' head coach Chris Belof. "Silas is a special person and athlete and that was on full display today. Our young group taking third today was exactly what we were expecting."
Caden Jones (Woodstock, NB) ran to a 16th place finish in his UNB debut while Sadiq Shahid (Mississauga, ON) was 26th, Ian Young (Fredericton, NB) 31st, and Sam Andrew (Saskatoon, SK) 32nd.
"A good opening performance for our group," said Belof.
The next event on the AUS schedule is September 21st, at STFX. The REDS will send a split squad on the road that weekend, with some going to Antigonish and a contingent going to the Western Invitational, in London, ON.
