REDS Drop Five-Setter
(FREDERICTON, NB) The Laval Rouge et Or beat the UNB REDS 3-2 in an exciting five-set duel in RSEQ men's volleyball action, Saturday afternoon at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.
In the opening set, the home team rallied from an early deficit, going ahead 16-15 on route to a 25-21 victory.
In the second, the Rouge et Or flexed their offensive muscle in a 25-15 triumph to even the match.
The REDS rebounded, scoring five of the final seven points to win the third set 25-19.
The fourth set saw Laval build an early lead and hold it, despite several UNB pushes. The Rouge et Or won 25-21.
In the deciding set, Laval build a small lead mid-way through then pulled away for a 15-9 win and the 3-2 victor.
First year RED Moritz Möhring led UNB with a match-high 23 kills while Benjamin Sullivan struck 17.
Lucas Maffia recorded 10 digs and Finn McMorran put up 48 assists.
Thomas Boccardi led the visitors with 16 kills and 11 digs.
Max Losier hit 14 kills for the Rouge et Or and Jacob Gendron put up four blocks.
Laval solidifies their hold on second place in the RSEQ standings with the win and is now 11-2 while the REDS, who sit third, are 6-8.
The REDS next action is Friday, February 13th when they're in Montreal to take on the league-leading Carabins in the first of a two-match weekend series, the final games of UNB's regular season schedule.
Laval will host Montreal before those matches, on February 6th.
