REDS Complete Sweep At Sherbrooke
(SHERBROOKE, QC) The UNB REDS completed a weekend sweep on Saturday with a straight-sets win over the Sherbrooke Vert et Or in RSEQ men's volleyball action.
Saturday's victory followed Friday's 3-1 REDS triumph.
The REDS won Saturday's match with scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-14.
"To get this kind of result meant that we had to be great in all positions, and this was certainly the case," said REDS' head coach Dan McMorran. "They were fresh off their road win against top-ranked Laval last weekend, so we knew they were going to come into this weekend with a lot of confidence at home."
On Saturday, when the REDS dressed only eight players, Lucas Maffia led the way with nine kills while first-year RED Alex Bourque had nine digs.
Nicolas Losier and Ben Sullivan both had eight kills, and Finn McMorran pitched 25 assists.
"Shout out to two second-year players, Ben Sullivan and Charlie Craig, who got their first starts of the season and made an impact," said Coach McMorran.
On Friday, the REDS won 3-1 with scores of 26-28, 25-20, 25-12, and 25-21.
Maffia and Moritz Möhring had a dozen kills each. Sullivan added 11 and McMorran registered 39 assists and seven digs.
Sullivan and Travis Pruim had four blocks each on Friday.
"On Friday, we lost the opening set 28-26 after having three set points, but stormed back and dominated the next three sets. Saturday, we were even better in every area and were relentless with our pressure," said McMorran.
"These were two massive wins for us heading into the break," he added. "We showed a lot of maturity this weekend, and I'm proud of the growth of this group."
With the win the REDS are now 4-4 and sit third in the RSEQ standings.
UNB returns to action on Friday, January 9th (2026) when they travel to Halifax to take on Dalhousie. First serve is scheduled for 8:00pm Atlantic.
