Jeong and Banks Lead REDS Men
(SAINT JOHN, NB) The UNB REDS track and field team opened their 2025-2026 season hosting their annual Red & Black Open, Saturday at the Irving Oil Field House, in Saint John.
A number of REDS had standout performances, including Tony Jeong, who won both the men's shot put and weight throw, and Hannah Barnhard who established a new UNB record in the women's high jump.
Jeong won the men's shot put with a distance of 13.35 metres and the weight throw with a toss of 15.89 metres.
Barnhard took the high jump crown, leaping 1.65 metres.
Levi Neuman won the men's high jump.
Ashley Morrow also established a new UNB record, winning the women's shot put with a put of 11.60 metres.
Haley Angus won the women's long jump and triple jump while Oliver Arnfast won the men's long jump.
On the track, Jackson Banks broke his own UNB record in the men's 60-metres, winning in a time of 6.85 metres. Banks edged second place by a mere 14/100ths of a second. He also won the men's 200-metres.
In the qualifying heats for the women's 60, first-year RED Shaniece Smikle ran an impressive 7.66 seconds. Smikle then won the women's 200-metres, finishing in 25.66 seconds.
Another first-year RED, Caden Wolverton, raced to first place in the men's 300-metres while Kalevi Kahri won the 600-metres and Hayden McKinnon ran first in the 1000-metres.
A split squad of REDS will attend two meets on December 6th, with one contingent travelling to the Boston University Opener and another to Laval's Rouge et Or Invitational.
