REDS Wrap U SPORTS Championships
(MARKHAM, ON) On the final day of competition at the U SPORTS Swimming Championships, in Markham, Ontario, UNB’s Blake Kingston placed 16th overall, finishing eighth in the B Final of the men’s 50-metre breaststroke.
In qualifying for the event, Kingston swam his preliminary heat in 27.79 seconds, a new UNB record in the event.
Teammate Matthew de Goey, the previous school record holder, was 28th in preliminaries and did not advance.
Camden Reid was 24th overall in the men’s 200-metre butterfly, finishing eighth in the C Final.
In the men’s 4-by-100-metre medley relay, the UNB foursome of Maxime Kenny, Reid, Kingston, and de Goey placed 16th in a field of 20 teams.
On the women’s side, first-year RED Maria McDougall was 34th in prelims for the 100-metre freestyle. Hannah MacLeod was 45th.
