REDS Men Second After Day One Of Legere
(SAINT JOHN, NB) The Dalhousie Tigers lead the women's, men's, and combined team standings after the first of two days of competition at the Amby Legere Invitational, the fourth event on the Atlantic University Sport swimming schedule.
The event is being hosted by UNB at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre, in Saint John.
The Tigers won 15 of the first day's 18 events while REDS swimmers won three.
Dal began the day with Emilie Schofield's victory in the women's 200-metre individual medley. UNB's Maria McDougall swam second in that race.
Dal's Cameron Carlyle won the men's 200 IM.
The Tigers kept rolling with Sara Bennett winning the women's 50-metre butterfly and Nate Thompson winning the men's race.
In the women's 200-metre freestyle, Emma Carrier Clarke touched the wall first. Teammate Morgan Sparkes won the men's race.
Dal's Adelaide Young then won the women's 100-metre backstroke.
Carlyle scored his second win of the day in the men's 100-back, finished just ahead of UNB's Maxime Kenny and Camden Reid who finished second and third.
Carrier Clarke picked up her second win of the day, taking the women's 50-metre freestyle.
UNB's Blake Kingston put an end to the Tigers run by finishing first in the men's 50-free, beating Thompson by just three-tenths of a second.
Alexia Morgans took first in the women's 200-metre butterfly.
Reid scored UNB's second win of the day, taking the men's 200-fly, finishing ahead of five Tigers.
Dal swept the top three spots in the women's 100-metre breaststroke with Lily MacLean leading the way.
UNB's third win came in the men's 100-breast, with Kingston logging his second victory of the day. Teammate Ethan Nestoruk swam to third place.
Morgans touched first to win the women's 800-metre freestyle while her Dal teammate David Harvie was first in the men's 1500-metres.
Dal won both the women's and men's 4-by-50-metre relays.
Day two of competition goes Sunday. Racing begins at 10:00am.
