UNB's Kingston Wins Twice
(HALIFAX, NS) Blake Kingston raced to victory in two events on Day One of the Dalhousie Invitational, the second meet on the Atlantic University Sport swimming schedule, Saturday in Halifax.
Kingston won the men's 50 and 100 metre breaststrokes.
In the 50-metre race, Kingston finished a mere 12/100ths of a second ahead of Memorial's Jake LeCoure and just 4/10ths ahead of teammate Ethan Nestoruk, who was fourth.
Kingston also swam to a third place finish in the men's 50-metre freestyle, touching the wall 18/100ths of a second after the first place finisher. UNB's Maxime Kenny finished fifth. He was just 22/100ths off the winner's pace.
First year REDS Camden Reid placed second in the men's 100-metre butterfly and Will Franklin was fourth in the men's 100-metre freestyle. That race saw the top four finishers touch the wall within 4/10ths of a second.
Maria McDougall swam to a second place finish in the women's 100-metre freestyle and fellow first year RED Bronwyn Preece earned a third place finish in the women's 200-metre backstroke, touching the wall 1/100th of a second ahead of McDougall who was fourth.
The final event of Day One was an 8-by-50 metre mixed relay.
The REDS finished second, behind the Dalhousie Tigers and ahead of the Memorial Sea-Hawks.
The meet concludes with another session on Sunday. Racing begins at 2:00pm.
