Butterflier Reid Commits To REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS men’s swimming team is adding butterflier Camden Reid to their recruiting class of 2025.
The 17-year-old, from Oshawa, Ontario, is finishing his Grade 12 year at Oshawa’s Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School and has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent. He’ll join the REDS ahead of the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport season.
“Camden is a dynamic presence in the water,” said Marta Belsh, head coach of the REDS’ women’s and men’s swimming teams. “His ability to push and consistently post personal bests indicates he’s on an upward trajectory in terms of his development. We’re excited to see him realize his full potential here at UNB.”
A long-time member of the Oshawa Aquatic Club, Reid qualified for the 2024 Canadian Olympic Trials in the men’s 200-metre butterfly and competed at the Canadian Swimming Championships.
Last December, at the Ontario Junior Internationals meet, he swam a new personal best in his signature event, the 200 fly. His time of 2:06.24 would’ve earned him the silver medal at the 2025 AUS Swimming Championships.
“I’ll bring a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and dedication to the REDS,” said Reid. “I take pride in seeing others achieve their goals, and enjoy the process of training hard alongside a supportive team.”
Reid, who will study Forestry while attending UNB, says his goals include meeting qualifying standards for the AUS and U SPORTS Championships and helping his REDS teammates achieve their goals.
“The applied, hands-on approach to learning in the forestry program at UNB aligns perfectly with my learning style and I'm excited about the opportunity to immerse myself in both the academic and natural environment the university offers, as well as swimming.”
