(FREDERICTON, NB) Hunter Delahunt scored a hat-trick to pace the UNB REDS in a 3-3 draw with the visiting Acadia Axemen, Friday night, in the 2025 Atlantic University Sport season-opener for both teams.
The third-year REDS' forward opened the scoring just seven minutes in when he pounced on a loose ball in close and beat Acadia keeper Dylan Legere.
The Axemen countered ten minutes later on a goal by Toni Adeoye.
Delahunt restored UNB's lead in the 40th minute and the REDS took that 2-1 lead to the half-time break.
Delahunt completed the hat-trick early in the second half.
Already engaged by a charging Legere, Stefano D'Ambrogio fed a well-placed ball into the box where Delahunt tapped it into the Acadia net to make it a 3-1 game.
Once again, Acadia cut into the home team's lead.
Fifth-year defender Jabu Deng got his head on a free kick, knocking the ball high over leaping REDS' keeper Mahmoud Moustafa.
The Axemen comeback was completed when Nathan Amoah-Gyekye scored in the 90th minute to salvage the draw.
The REDS and Axemen are part of a six-team group tied for third in the AUS standings with a single point each.
Acadia swings back into action on Sunday afternoon, at Mount Allison. Game time is 1:00pm.
The REDS go on the road for their next game, next Saturday (Sept. 6) at Cape Breton. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
