(FREDERICTON, NB) The Dalhousie Tigers edged the UNB Reds 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds were all over the Tigers in the first half, with plenty of runs that resulted in shots deep in the Dalhousie box.
UNB came the closest to scoring midway through the first half with a mad scramble in front that eventually hit the post and was cleared.
Matt Quigley (Conquerall Mills, NS) had the ball deflect his direction from the midfield, but it was just out of reach and collected by Grondin.
Quigley created another nice play soon after and Takacs was in close again only to have his shot go wide.
Dalhousie came close to breaking the tie early in the second half with a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced clean off the line.
Dal loaded the front of their formation in the half and it payed off early, keeping the Reds in their end.
It didn't take long for UNB to respond with their own attack. Tristan Nkoghe (Sherbrooke, QC) let a shot go from the top of the Tigers box and Ben Gorringe (Truro, NS) corralled the rebound for a point-blank chance, but the shot hit a post and stayed out.
Nkoghe flew up the wing a few minutes later and let an impressive shot go, but Grondin again dove to make the save.
In the 79th minute, a goalmouth scramble in the Reds end resulted in the ball coming loose to Dal's Enrico Rodriguez (Halifax, NS) who put it past Evan Barker (Winnipeg, MB), breaking the deadlock and earning the 1-0 win.
Grondin made 10 saves and was named Subway Player of the Game.
Next up for UNB, a match against the Acadia Axemen, Saturday at 3:15pm, at UNB's BMO Centre.
Dalhousie's next game is against Moncton, on Saturday.
