UNB Varsity Reds Men's Soccer - 2011 Season Review

The 2011 season was a frustrating one for the Varsity Reds men’s soccer team. The team missed the AUS play-offs for the first time in 16 years. UNB finished with a record of 3 wins (MUN, MTA, UdeM), 4 ties (UPEI-2, MTA, ACA), and 6 losses (MUN, Dal, SMU, UdeM, CBU, STFX).

The UNB team’s frustration was result of inconsistent play as well as the knowledge that they were capable of better performances and results. These performances can partly be explained by the team’s inexperience, as there were ten first-year players and five second-year players with the team. It was made even more difficult when a number of veteran players missed significant time due to injuries. There were positive signs as the team improved over the season and earned two of its wins in the final two games of the season.

Ben Law was recognized for his strong season by being named an AUS All-Star, First-Team .

First year players that had solid starts to their varsity careers include: Victor Karosan - midfield, Mark Allison- midfield, and Steve Miller – Defense.

Players graduating after this season are: Ryan Lauzon – MBA, and deLobe Lederman - BA.
