BMO Financial Group directs one million dollars to the Varsity Reds men’s and women’s soccer programs at the University of New Brunswick
FREDERICTON- At a special ceremony held at The University of New Brunswick yesterday it was announced that BMO Financial Group will dedicate one million dollars to the UNB Varsity Reds men’s and women’s soccer programs..
It is well known that the BMO name is synonymous with soccer across Canada and now the Varsity Reds will compete at the newly named BMO Centre at UNB, further reinforcing BMO’s position as a leader in soccer development. This targeted funding will help to further develop excellence on the field and in the classroom for UNB’s Varsity Reds athletes.
The UNB men’s soccer team will host the 2013 Canadian Interuniversity Sport soccer championship at the BMO Centre and this funding will go a long way in helping to attract the top student-athletes to UNB.
“Soccer is obviously a priority for BMO and is certainly a priority for us as our fall sport at UNB. This great partnership should help put our teams on a higher stage both regionally and nationally and we couldn’t be more appreciative of this special gift,” commented Kevin Dickie, director of athletics at the University of New Brunswick.
Overall BMO Financial Group is making a major investment in higher education in New Brunswick with the announcement of a $1,750,000 gift to the University of New Brunswick. The largest single donation ever made in Atlantic Canada by BMO is also the single largest gift received by UNB from a corporate donor. The 10-year commitment will support student projects on UNB campuses in Fredericton and Saint John.
