OJHL MVP Joining REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS, eight-time and defending Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey champions, are adding forward Taeo Artichuk to their recruiting class of 2026.
The 21-year-old has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2026-2027 AUS season.
“Taeo is a big recruit for UNB and we couldn’t be happier,” said REDS’ head coach Rob Hennigar. “His resume and what he’s done in the Canadian Junior Hockey League is very impressive.”
“What sold me on UNB was that I’m able to use my athletic ability to further my education and create lifelong connections,” said Artichuk. “UNB will help me better myself and grow as a person, stepping outside of my comfort zone and pushing myself both in the classroom and on the ice.”
Artichuk’s junior career began with the Erie Otters, of the Ontario Hockey League.
In 129 regular season games between 2021 and 2023, the left winger from Ajax, Ontario, scored 10 goals and 11 assists.
He joined the Trenton Golden Hawks, of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, in 2023.
Artichuk helped Trenton to the OJHL title in 2024-25, finishing third in league scoring.
In 2025-26, he was named the league’s Most Valuable Player after winning the regular season scoring title with 37 goals and 71 assists in 55 games.
“Coming off being the MVP and with the points he put up, we’re excited to add him to the group,” said Coach Hennigar. “He’s got great vision and I think he can help add offence to our team and be a threat with the puck. I think he can make a difference at this level.”
Artichuk describes himself as detailed and as someone who loves to compete and push teammates to be better. He says he’ll be ready to do whatever is asked of him.
“My creativity in the offensive zone and my will to do anything to win is what will stand out,” said Artichuk.
He’ll pursue a degree in Recreation and Sport Studies while attending UNB.
