(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE) The UNB REDS scored a 2-1 win over the UPEI Panthers, Saturday night in Charlottetown, to finish first overall in Atlantic University Sport's men's hockey standings.
Luke Torrance and Thomas Larouche scored first period goals to lead the REDS and Remi Delafontaine made 21 saves on 22 shots in the UNB net.
Keefe Marshall scored UPEI's lone goal.
With the win, UNB's fifth in a row and ninth in their last ten games, the REDS finish with a 20-8-2-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) record.
UNB finishes two points better than Moncton and three better than Acadia.
The Panthers, 17-13-0-0, finish fifth.
The REDS, by virtue of their first-place finish, earn a first-round playoff bye and will await a to-be-determined opponent in the AUS semi-finals.
The Panthers will meet fourth-place Saint Mary's in the conference quarter-finals.
UNB has now won 18 consecutive AUS regular season pennants.
