(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE) The UNB REDS dropped a 5-3 decision to the UPEI Panthers in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey, Wednesday night in Charlottetown.
The game began well for UNB, with Jax Dubois scoring the game's first goal just 1:13 into the opening period.
In the second, the Panthers scored three times in five minute span before the REDS were able to respond with a Stu Rolofs goal with 52 seconds remaining.
The Panthers added a fourth goal with just six seconds left in the period, taking a 4-2 lead to the second intermission.
Cole Huckins scored on the powerplay mid-way through the third period to bring the REDS within a goal, but that was as close as they'd get.
UPEI added an empty net goal to round out the scoring.
Remi Delafontaine surrendered four goals on 25 shots to take the loss while Jakob Robillard gave up three goals on 32 shots in the Panthers net.
With the loss, the REDS are now 9-5-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL), good for a share of second place in the AUS standings. The Panthers are now 9-6-0-0, a point behind UNB and Moncton.
The REDS return to action and home ice on Friday when they host les Aigles Bleus in UNB's 9th annual Teddy Bear Toss Game.
Spectators are encouraged to bring a new or slightly used stuffed animal to the game.
When the REDS score their first goal, fans will throw their stuffed animals onto the Aitken Centre ice. They'll be collected and cleaned by the Salvation Army, and distributed to economically challenged families during the holiday season.
Game time is 7:00pm.
Tickets are still available but selling quickly.
