(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS scored three special teams goals in the second period and another in the third in a 9-3 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action, Saturday afternoon at UNB's Aitken Centre.
The game was played before 2964 spectators on the REDS first Elementary School Game of the 2025-2026 season.
Michael Petizian and Nick Blagden scored regular strength goals 51 seconds apart in the opening frame as the REDS built a 3-0 lead, only to watch the Huskies rally and make it a 3-2 game after 20 minutes.
Saint Mary's then drew even, 3-3, just 27 seconds into the second period.
Cole Huckins, on the powerplay, Luke Torrance, short-handed, and Stu Rolofs, on the powerplay, gave UNB a 6-3 lead through two periods of play.
Huckins scored his second of the game in the third before Braden MacPhee and Camaryn Baber, short-handed, rounded out the scoring.
Huckins finished with two goals and an assist. He was named Tim Horton's Player of the Game.
Peter Reynold had a goal and two assists. Blagden, Petizian, MacPhee, and Rolofs all had a goal and an assist, and Cody Morgan had two assists.
Liam Sztuska improved to 3-1 with the win in the REDS net. He made 15 saves on 18 shots.
Ben West surrendered all nine REDS goals. He faced 40 shots.
Ben Allison led the Huskies' effort with two goals and an assist while Reid Valade had a pair of assists.
UNB is now 9-4-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) while the Huskies are 7-5-0-0.
The REDS skate back into action on Wednesday night when they travel to UPEI for a 7:00pm faceoff.
The Huskies visit STFX on Friday.
