(FREDERICTON, NB) The Acadia Axemen scored a pair of powerplay goals in the second period to beat the UNB REDS 3-2 in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action, Friday night at UNB's Aitken Centre.
The loss dropped the REDS out of first place in the AUS standings and saw the Axemen move into top spot.
UNB's Marc-Olivier Beaudry opened the scoring at 14:52 of the first period. The goal was the first of Beaudry's AUS career.
Liam Kidney and Bailey Peach scored powerplay goals about three-and-a-half minutes apart in the second as the visitors went in front.
Charlie Desroches added to Acadia's lead in the third before Cody Morgan made it a 3-2 game with 61 seconds to play.
That was as close as the REDS would get.
Morgan finished the night with a goal and an assist.
Cam Whynot had two assists for the Axemen.
Thomas Couture stopped 32 of the 34 UNB shots he faced while Remi Delafontaine made 18 saves on 21 shots.
