(ANTIGONISH, NS) The UNB REDS built a 3-0 first period lead on route to a 5-1 over the STFX X-Men, Friday night in Antigonish.
Cole Huckins scored twice to lead the REDS while Remi Delafontaine made 30 saves on 31 shots to earn the win in the UNB net.
After taking a penalty less than a minute in, the REDS opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at the 1:04 mark.
Camaryn Baber's goal staked the visiting REDS to an early lead.
Mike Petizian and Huckins, with his first, added goals to give UNB a 3-0 lead after the first 20 minutes.
Matt Cato scored the only goal of the second period to bring the X-Men within a pair after two periods.
Stuart Rolofs restored UNB's three goal lead early in the third period with a power-play goal and Huckins' second of the night came with less than a minute to play and with the REDS once again short-handed.
Patrick Weaver surrendered five goals on 51 REDS shots, taking the loss in the STFX net.
With the win, UNB is now 5-3-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL). The X-Men are 3-5-0-1.
The REDS continue their weekend road trip on Saturday. They visit Dalhousie. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
