(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS handed the Saint Mary's Huskies their first loss of the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport men's hockey season on Friday, a 5-2 win over the previously unbeaten Huskies.
Jax Dubois scored twice, including the winner, earning Tim Horton's Player of the Game honours.
After a scoreless first period, Luke Torrance and Dubois scored 16 seconds apart in the second to put UNB ahead by a pair.
The Huskies responded with goals by Reid Valade and Ben Allison to tie the game.
Dubois' scored his second of the night mid-way through the third and Cole Huckins tacked on an insurance goal at the 13:04 mark.
Camaryn Baber's short-handed goal into an empty net rounded out the scoring.
Luca D'Amato had three assists for the REDS, while Justin Nolet assisted on a pair.
Remi Delafontaine made 23 saves on 25 shots to earn the win in the UNB net.
Marcus Vandenberg took the loss for the Huskies. He faced 42 shots, stopping 38.
With the win, the REDS are now 4-2-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL). The Huskies, who remain atop the AUS standings, are 6-1-0-0.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday.
The REDS host Acadia. Game time is 7:00pm.
Saint Mary's travels to UPEI. That game is also scheduled for a 7:00pm start.
