(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB REDS suffered a pair of 4-3 weekend losses, falling to 2-2 in the early season Atlantic University Sport men's hockey standings.
"Obviously not the weekend results we wanted, but we're learning what it takes and how hard it is to win in this league," said REDS' head coach Rob Hennigar. "It takes everyone, every shift."
On Friday, in Wolfville, the REDS scored nine seconds into the first period but then surrendered goals to the Acadia Axemen.
UNB did rebound, scoring late in the second period and mid-way through the third, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Thomas Larouche, Luke Torrance and Colton Kammerer scored the REDS.
On Saturday, in Halifax, the REDS fell behind 3-0 to the Saint Mary's Huskies before mounting an unsuccessful comeback attempt.
Kammerer registered a goal and an assist for the REDS while Michael Petizian and Gage Heyes also scored.
Remi Delafontaine came on in relief of Liam Sztuska in the UNB net mid-way through the first period.
The REDS now sit in a two-way tie for fourth place in the AUS standing.
"It's a great challenge for our group and we look forward to hitting it head on," said Hennigar. "We know what needs to get better and we'll get back at it in practice and continue to work together."
UNB travels to Moncton to face the Aigles Bleue on Wednesday. Game time is 7:00pm.
