(FREDERICTON, NB) Cody Morgan scored two power-play goals just 54 seconds apart in the third period to lift the UNB REDS to a 5-2 win over the STFX X-Men Saturday night in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action.
Morgan scored at 10:58 and again at 11:52, both times as the REDS worked with 5-on-3 advantages.
REDS' newcomer Stuart Rolofs scored twice in the second period, along with fellow first-year RED Thomas Larouche.
Dominik Godin and Aaron Brown scored for the X-Men.
Patrick Weaver stopped 39 of 44 REDS shots taking the loss in the STFX net.
Liam Sztuska made 16 saves on 18 shots to earn the win in his REDS and AUS debut.
Luca D'Amato recorded four assists from the UNB blue line.
With the win, the REDS improve to 2-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL). The X-Men are now 1-1-0-0.
The REDS hit the road for the first time this season next weekend. They visit Acadia on Friday. Game time is 7:00pm.
The X-Men skate back into action on Wednesday. They're at Dalhousie to take on the Tigers in a 7:00pm start.
